By the time we reach the events of the last reel, involving a nasty British boxer, I was fully behind the film and loving every action-packed minute.

It goes without saying that Yen gives a seemingly effortless performance and that the film provides real heart as well as top-notch action. It's Hong Kong. It's a slow start. Wong Leung becomes his first student. Life is tough and money is tight. There is a great Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa relationship in this movie. There are some overly dramatic villains in this movie but some of it can be excused.

Anybody familiar with the fight game have seen overly dramatic testosterone-fueled drama. Even though he screams too much, I'm fine with Twister's craziness. Quite frankly, I would cut out Ip Man's final speech and have him walk away with dignity. There is some over-the-top unnecessary melodrama.. The best is the rivalry between Ip Man and Master Hung. Sammo Hung is simply great. The two veterans are the beating heart of this movie.

As for the action, there is some good stuff but interestingly, the fights against Twister show that the Chinese fighters being weaker than him. They're put in a standard underdog sports movie.
